1970 से हर साल 22 अप्रैल को पृथ्वी दिवस मनाया जाता है । वर्ष 2019 की थीम "PROTECT OUR SPECIES"। पृथ्वी दिवस की अगुवाई दुनिया भर में पृथ्वी दिवस नेटवर्क(EARTH DAY NETWORK) नामक संगठन करता है । पृथ्वी दिवस 2018 की थीम एंड प्लास्टिक पॉल्यूशन (END PLASTIC POLLUTION) रही थी।
भूमिका :-   1970 में आए आधुनिक पर्यावरण आंदोलन के उद्भव की वर्षगांठ का प्रतीक ही पृथ्वी दिवस है जो कि 1970 से हर साल 22 अप्रैल को मनाया जाता है । पृथ्वी दिवस के संस्थापक GAYLORD NELSON ने पर्यावरण पर ध्यान केंद्रित करने के लिए इसे एक राष्ट्रीय दिवस के रूप में मनाने का विचार लाया था । 1970 में आयोजित पृथ्वी दिवस ने उस उभरती हुई चेतना को आवाज दी थी जिसने युद्ध विरोधी आंदोलन की ऊर्जा को प्रसारित किया और पर्यावरण की चिंताओं को सामने रखा
कार्यप्रणाली :- पृथ्वी दिवस ENDANGERED & THREATENED SPECIES  जैसे मधुमक्खी, प्रवाल भित्ति, हाथी, जिराफ, कीड़े-मकोड़े व्हेल आदि की रक्षा के लिए मिलकर काम करने की बात करता है। 2020 में पृथ्वी दिवस की 50वीं वर्षगांठ मनाई जाएगी । 2020 में आयोजित होने वाले पृथ्वी दिवस के लिए एक वैश्विक सलाहकार समिति (GLOBAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE) बनाई गई है। इस समिति के सदस्यों में भारत के अभिनेता और निर्माता अनिल कपूर भी शामिल है।
पृथ्वी शिखर सम्मेलन 1992 :- 1992 में ब्राजील के रियो डी जेनेरियो में संयुक्त राष्ट्र द्वारा अर्थ सम्मिट का आयोजन किया गया। सतत विकास लक्ष्यों को हासिल करना ही इस सम्मिट का मुख्य उद्देश्य था। स्टॉकहोम सम्मेलन की 20वीं सालगिरह मनाने के लिए इसका आयोजन किया गया था। इस सम्मेलन में विकास से संबंधित निम्न मुद्दों को स्वीकार किया गया था -
(1).एजेंडा 21,
(2). पर्यावरण और विकास पर रियो घोषणा
(3).जलवायु परिवर्तन पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र फ्रेमवर्क कन्वेंशन जैव विविधता पर सम्मेलन UNFCCC.

Earth Summit 1992: - In 1992, the UN Summit was organized by the United Nations in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The objective of this Summit was to achieve sustainable development goals. It was organized to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Stockholm Conference. The following issues related to development were accepted at this conference -
